I have a few clients and business friends who use WordPress CMS. Every now and again someone will ask me a question about using WordPress so I thought I would start a FAQ page – not because I don’t want to hear from them but because sometimes they need an answer when I’m not around. If you have a question that isn’t answered here then do contact me.

1. How do I change or get rid of the ‘just another wordpress blog’ tagline?

From your dashboard go to Settings (left hand column near the bottom). Under General you will see where you can change your website name and the tagline. Once you have changed or removed the tagline go to the bottom of the page and Save your changes.

 

2. How do I give each page or post a nice URL rather than the uninformative ones that wordpress generates?

Again, go to Settings and then look down the list until you find Permalinks. There are several styles to choose from. I usually choose day & name.

 

3. Can I change the address of the post or page I am writing or have written?

Yes you can. If the automatic URL your post or page has been given looks messy (it’s taken from the title of the post/page) then it is very simple to change it. Go into edit the post or page you need to change, under the title you will see the permalink it has been given. You can edit the last part by clicking on the ‘edit’ button. Change it, make it relevant and useful then save. Voilà !
